Welcome to Creek Crossing Landscape Photography

From time immemorial, the universe of the subconscious has been known most clearly in the wilderness… Cedric Wright

About Me

I recognized life's beauty became better defined during my earliest childhood wilderness explorations. Family vacations to Idaho, Colorado, and South Dakota nurtured a natural love for the mountains. After moving to California in 1981 as a young adult, I discovered the Sierra Nevada; a mountain wilderness without parallel. I began studies in photography in 1982 after purchasing a Pentax 35mm camera. Landscape photography became the medium of choice in an effort to convey what I felt compelled to share. I am an artist painting with light through the lens of a camera.

The Medium

John Muir, recognizing the remarkable character of light in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, is credited with coining the descriptive phrase, Range of Light. At the time, photography was in its infancy, but had John Muir possessed a camera, I can only imagine his enthusiasm for the medium. Claude Monet, recognizing the critical nature of light in his attempts to convey Nature's beauty, created an entirely new genre with his impressionistic style of painting. Ansel Adams recognized the parallel between music and photography when he made the statement that the negative is comparable to the composer's score and the print to its performance. Photography is like a serenade, a visual composition with the instrument of a camera, in honor of someone or something. I chose to honor Nature's beautiful landscapes, be it an ocean sunrise or the remarkable light of the Sierra Nevada. (For further reading on the subject, read My Story.)

The Objective

Successful conveyance of Nature's landscapes by way of photographic art will serve to inspire the viewer and imbue a sense of the miraculous. Along these lines, my artistic endeavors have evolved into the objective of preserving a window, a fleeting moment, a glimpse into the time-space continuum; to use the words of Cedric Wright, to preserve a connection into the universe of the subconscious.
